Pentex Subsidiaries
TruCall Holdings: Cable and Internet provider, that grew out of telephone service provider (hence the name); known for exploitative practices toward consumers that it can get away with thanks to the oligopolistic set up of the market. In addition it is instrumental in shaping access to information for its consumers and thus is heavily involved in Pentex's Public Relations for it and its Subsidiaries. It is through TruCall that Pentex owns its several television networks...
-Omni TV: increasingly dominated by exploitative reality television ("Who Wants to Marry a [insert T word I won't write]?" "In Jail with the Octavians!" "Children of Africa" [about cute white hero children] "Sex Stars of Wallstreet!"....)
-Omni Kids: mostly licenses franchise cartoons meant to push Avalon & Tellus products - biggest hit is Our Friendly Bunnies, via a fanatic adult male fanbase with heavily sexualized fan-works dominating fanspaces to keep out actual children the original creators were aiming for before Avalon & Omni moved in - a triumph in Avalon's quest for arrested development.
-RED Network: whose pundits will always find time to rail against the filth on Omni; or in the adult film industry; so that Pentex can make money coming & going
-Private Playground (aka "the Double-P"), a major adult entertainment studio, with its own pay per view network courtesy of TruCall; prides itself in constantly pushing the edge in degredation, for which point they seek out only the truly desperate in performers, so refusal can be pushed to a non-issue. [Double-P also has less legit subsidiary studios, and based on customer viewing habits knows who to link to those webpages... and then hold via blackmail leverage of their own digital footprints]
- RED Sports: formerly OmniSports, but the property was transfered over to the RED Network when TruCall acquired RED for Pentex. Plays to the lowest basest common denominator in fanatic sports fandom, fueling fanatic rivalries, embrace of any-means-to-win attitudes, violent machismo, and general investiture of self-identity in the success of teams that have nothing to do with the viewer. Needless to say, Kings Breweries is a MAJOR sponsor.
- RED Finance: Consolidex Worldwide's mouthpiece guiding shoddy investment for their profit. There's of course tiny print disclaimers about the investment advise pundits give regarding conflicts of interest, but that does little to deter viewers in pissing away their life savings
- RED Weather: Another former "Omni" sister channel that made the transfer over to RED. Pretty much a normal weather channel... except for the Climate Change denialism that runs through most everything aired
AquaTek Aventures: This is Pentex Board Nominee "Mike's" idea that he shared on the kickstarter comments page. Short version: it's Sea World in the front, Projects Iliad & Lycaon with aquatic monstrosities in the back.
Blackfire Security: Private military contractor that works closely with Nastrum. Go to mercenaries for dirty situations where Western governments and various powerful corporations don't want to use their own militaries/security-forces. Will outfit Pentex First Teams for the right price. (yes, I borrowed the name from the New World of Darkness)
Eterent: An agrobusiness biotech company very close to actively wiping bees off the face of the earth with its pesticides. It has also found great legal versatility in the ability to patent dna, so that the spread of pollen from its plants allows the proprietary claiming of crops from farms that have never done business with Eterent. Its special strains of high fructose corn syrup is found in the majority of Young & Smith products.
Wiping out honeybees, and hopefully most other bee and pollinating insect species, has real benefits for the Wyrm, from imperiling wildlife to promoting famine and the poverty and violence that go with it.
It's also very profitable. When natural pollination becomes impossible in some part of the world, anyone who can supply artificial pollination gets a lucrative monopoly on the honeybee business. (You don't even need to give up on the famine, as long as there are people too poor to afford your pollination services.)
Eterent is already marketing their genetically engineered honeybees to farmers around the world. These bees are of course immune to all Eterent pesticides and unharmed by Wyrm-taint. They aggressively spread, hybridizing with (or outright killing) any remaining non-Eterent honeybees near their hives, and Eterent is busy patenting and trademarking their DNA in as many countries as possible so they can squeeze royalties (and lawsuits) out of anyone whose hive has been hybridized, or whose crops have been pollinated by Eterent bees. Their hives appear perfectly healthy even in polluted, tainted, and heavily pesticide-sprayed farms. They produce almost as much honey as killer bees with far less aggression, so they're a good alternative for farmers bothered by Africanized honey bees. They even hybridize with and "tame" killer bee hives they encounter. The fewer natural pollinators survive, the more profit Eterent makes from honeybees immune to the "mysterious" but obviously "completely natural" colony collapse plague.
The researchers are busy designing and testing new strains of these bees. Some produce more honey or wax than the first commercialized strain. Two of the most promising efficiently convert any pesticides they consume into Wyrm taint undetectable by mundane means. One strain laces honey and wax with the Wyrm poison, to taint people who eat the honey or inhale smoke from beeswax candles. The second strain spreads the taint into the pollen they carry and feeds it back into pollinated plants, so the seeds take the taint into them at conception. The goal is for plants to grow up inherently tainted in every part of their tissue, and for fruits produced from the pollinated plants to be tainted. The bees spread it around to wild plants as well.
CSS Health & Education: Formerly "Community Security Solutions", CSS Health & Education is a private prison contractor. It's mandatory quotas in its contracts with the state guarantee a continuous greasing of the wheels of the incarceration industrial complex masquerading as a justice system in the US. These prisoners in turn provide cheap labor that several other Pentex subsidiaries actively utilize. Zettler has also been known to utilize the inmate population, who are already treated by their environment as little more than caged animals.
GEO Dreams: an education reform company that has mastered the art of raiding teacher pensions, and the money tied to each student, pushing standardized testing built on the bedrock of the eugenics movement, and franchising some of the most truly bizarre charter school programs in the Wyrm's service you could ever dread to imagine.
*Herrick's: instead of a grocery store, Herrick's should really have expanded by this point to be Pentex's WalMart.
Family Auto: creator of low cost, family friendly vehicles with an impressive life expectancy. The cars' emissions would be poor, and the vehicle wouldn't be very safe, but their low maintenance requirements means the families would keep driving them. The company would also have a huge lobby for lowering the emission regulations.
Ameripath: A large scheme that encourages people in need to start up their own "company" using supplied Ameripath goods with promises of huge profits (both through their own sales, and the sales of others they get to also join the business)... but most lose the investment (often their life savings) and leave them with unfulfilled dreams and broke. Others buy and use the exclusive Amerpath products they sell, which are all toxic, child-labor-made, cheaply-made as well.
Voltaic Crafts (Now has shorted down to "VC"): A video game developer, publisher, marketer, and distributor that could give Tellus a run for it's money. And is probably plotting to take over Tellus by "gutting" all the employees there as we speak.
Thoseguyswithmonocles.com: A major website hosting internet reviewers who review everything under the sun and Pentex-made material. For example, the Film Braggart mostly reviews old Gorehound/Exploitation movies and is immune to the banes within them: But his viewers aren't…
Harold & Harold Mining-independent from Endron, mostly involved in rare metals mining in Africa, with a horrific legacy of worker enslavement and mutilation
Tyche Fortune & Entertainment, Ltd: consolidated in the Bahamas, this gaming company (as in gambling, not Tellus gaming) owns several casinos through the Caribbean, Vegas, Atlantic City, etc etc. They still operate said businesses including with less official loan sharks and bookies, but increasingly their fortune is built on online gambling with systems carefully designed for maximum addiction. In the end, the most addicted users chose to put their own soul up as collateral with the hope of winning everything back.
Oran-Cocolive: a producer of soaps, detergents, household cleaners, and oral hygiene products. Their products contain no Wyrm-taint, and in fact work exceptionally well. So exceptionally well that they are crippling immune systems in the western world.
Worldwide Institute for Archeological Development [WIAD]: A seemingly cultural association, occuping itself with excavation of old and powerful Banes, researches regarding the Claws of the Wyrm and lost caerns who than they defile.
Northwing Airlines
Nastrum Enterprises. It already specializes in rocketry and aircraft because it's in the WMD market. It'd be just a short hop over in production, compared to other subsidiaries, to making aerospace vehicles.
