Children of Gaia
I figured that I would make a thread for each of the tribes and we can have a civil discourse on what we like and don't like about each of the tribes in turn. Starting in order of appearance on the podcast (because that how I am choosing to do this) Children of Gaia. Truth be told they seem like a powder keg, which is surprising to me. I have found out that people generally either love them or hate them and there seems to be a very small area of middle ground. Which when you consider the tribe's reliance on mediation and generalized acceptance of differences, seems odd that they would be so divisive. Personally I enjoy this tribe, yes they have their faults and short comings, but don't all garou? As it has been pointed out by the rest of the crew I am the most aligned with the value structure that the tribe is trying to emulate in their propaganda. I love that their tribal totem is unicorn, that really does make all the sense in the world, a creature of mythical purity with a murder horn. One of the stumbling blocks with this tribe that I see is the disseminated power structure. It seems like garou are choosing the battles that resonate with them personally, which is great, however if we have to band together to fight a bigger threat... Where does that one voice to unite come from and who gets to vote on it?
Okay, now its your turn. Tell me I am wrong, heck, tell me I am right... What do you like/hate about this tribe, what makes you sad or gives you hope?
I want to go to bat for the Children of Gaia, here.
BTW, I came late to the podcast, only recently starting, so yeah, I'm late to comment on everything. But I still want to respond.
For the Children of Gaia. They asked how can a rage monster be a hippy peacenik?
I will now express the rage of the Children of Gaia. "You... you don't believe in Global Warming because you don't like the solutions presented? Is it, perhaps, a bit more important that we acknowledge the issue that might be a mass extinction event, destroying all that we hold dear? Is it not more important to acknowledge an issue and argue for solutions you like than just holding everything up? Is the survival of the world, itself, not more important than whether or not you, personally, get to win an argument?!? Do you not imagine that I will visit such horrors upon you that the most profane of spirals would blanche at the sight? Stop being an obstinate little prick and get to work with us saving this world before I shove you out of it through your own colon!"
You know that one bit from All-star Superman? The bit where he stops to let a troubled young teen know that her therapist was just held up due to super-villain antics and just is there with her to help her keep from committing a permanent mistake? That's the Children of Gaia. They have the power and they care. If that's the kind of hero you'd like to be in a dark world, the Children of Gaia.
Yes, they have their flaws and I would describe that in the same way that I would describe many of my own real world flaws, white liberalism. They care, but they care from a position of privilege that just doesn't have the same skin in the game and is, therefore, willing to make bad compromises in the name of peace, justifiably angering those who aren't so privileged in various ways and ticking off everybody else by constantly bringing up these issues. So, there's a plethora of failings to work with for meaty storytelling and roleplay.
Oh, and I'll argue with them against the notion that the idea is to eliminate Tribes or Camps as a concept, but that's just this one Child of Gaia's perspective.
